New Orleans French Quarter Festival by Robin Murray

Hi, I’m Robin Murray and I will be your Southern Correspondent for the New Orleans music scene. You can catch me here the second Saturday of every month!  I first fell in love with music at the age of twelve, when my parents gave me my first radio for Christmas. Since then, I have tweaked my musical interests to Blues and my friends call me the “Blueslady “.  I have traveled from New Orleans all the way up to Memphis, TN. I love doing photography for our local musicians. I developed this “hobby” as the years went by.  Now let me tell you where I will be this weekend.

The New Orleans Saints winning the Super Bowl has attracted more visitors to this great city. The New Orleans 27th annual French Quarter Festival, April 9, 2010, through April 11, 2010, is no exception to the streets being flocked by tourists. This is one of the largest free concerts which starts in the French Quarter, right down to the banks of the Mississippi River. Attendance has been growing at rapid paces and is anticipated to be a record high this year.

Local Louisiana and New Orleans talent get their chance to shine in the lime light as this is their festival. There is everything from Blues, Jazz, Zydeco, Cajun, and Brass Bands.  And, this festival has become one of my favorites!  I can put my folding chair right near the river with the breeze blowing and the air full of music. A short distance away, Jackson Square is alive with music, as well as Preservation Hall, Louisiana State Museum’s Old U.S Mint. It is anticipated that 250 hours of music by more than 150 musical performances on 17 stages will be available for your listening pleasure. More on my adventure in the days to come as I will be taking in more of the music that is only New Orleans.

I hope to see you at one of the shows, at the following lineup of artists:
