April 9, 10 and 11, 2010, marked the 27th anniversary for the French Quarter Festival presented by Capital One Bank. According to information released by the organization, attendance figures indicate that approximately a half a million people attended the event.
The French Quarter Festival, that began in 1984, is the largest free music festival in the South. The festival provided eighteen stages throughout the French Quarter and presented the best in New Orleans music, representing every genre from traditional and contemporary jazz to R & B and New Orleans funk, brass bands, folk, gospel, classical, opera, Cajun Zydeco, Latin World, International, as well as a musical stage for children. People ate well as more than 105 food and beverage booths located in Jackson Square, Woldenberg Riverfront Park and the Louisiana State Museum’s Old U.S. Mint offered the best southern cuisine. American Blues News had a great time at the festival, and here are some of the things that we saw.
Heading down to the Old U.S. Mint stage
The legendary Ernie Vincent & the Top Notes at the Old US Mint Stage.
And....Ingrid Lucia
One of the most photographed scenes in New Orleans. Jackson Square, named after Andrew Jackson. The Artist Community selling their pictures. Horse and Buggy Rides.
This year, the famous Pfister Sisters of New Orleans graced the stage with their phenomenal songs from the Golden Era.
A must stop while in New Orleans. The famous Cafe' Du Monde, eating delicious Beignets while drinking their exclusive coffee and musicans playing on the side walk in front. Always enjoyable.
No festival would be complete without Brass Bands......who have their own stage for days during festival season.
A casual stroll through the French Quarter will unveil many entertaining sites.
When attending a festival near the Mississippi River, one always hopes to see a cruise ship passing by. With the Oil Spill, these may be the last ships that will flow down the Mississippi for a while. Cruise ship behind the Louis Armstrong Pavilion Stage........what a site to see.
A great time at the French Quarter Festival 2010! See you next year, you Bet!
