Lucky Peterson by Nelson Onofre

Posted on 2/14/2010 by Nelson Onofre

What's up Blues fans! This week I am submitting photos of Lucky Peterson from his Dec. 2009 show at Terra Blues in New York. I saw Lucky one time before, in July of 1994 when he performed at a free show in New York's Central Park. I think I first got hip to Lucky around 1992 when a buddy turned me on to his RIDIN' CD. For those of you that are familiar with Lucky you already know what a multi-talented musician he is. He was a child prodigy and is an accomplished vocalist, guitarist and organist. I enjoy Lucky's guitar work but really love what he does on the organ. I think I have to credit Lee Michaels and his killer version of Stormy Monday for my love of the Hammond organ. Put a Hammond through a Leslie cabinet and there's nothing like it!

Would you believe Lucky played his first gig at the age of 3 and by the time he was 5 had already recorded his first single? Like I said, child prodigy! Lucky put on quite a show at Terra Blues. At one point he ventured out into the crowd with his guitar and he eventually worked his way out onto the street. And yes, his wireless signal eventually gave out. Later in his set Lucky was joined onstage by guitarist Lance Lopez, who was hired for Lucky's band back when he was just 18 and toured with Lucky for 3 years. It was 15 years in-between shows for me but once again Lucky put on a great show. Check him out if you haven't already!

My thanks to Richard Lee of Terra Blues for his continued support.
Until the next go-round, keep supporting the Blues. As you can see these cats are working hard to lay it down for you.
