Reba Russell Band plays Poplar Bluff, Missouri by Robert "Nighthawk" Tooms

Posted on 5/17/2010 by Robert "Nighthawk" Tooms

(Memphis, Tennessee) This week our road excursion leads us to the beautiful community of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, home of Jim and Jerry's at 336 Vine Street where the band played to a sold out crowd of partying blues fans. Above, a friend sits in with a custom washboard and spoons. After making the drive from Memphis, we loaded into the club and checked into our hotel. A scant few hours later we were on stage playing some old favorites and also performing new songs off of the band's new release called "8."

Jim and Jerry's was populated with a great crowd of friendly patrons, all of whom loved music and greeted us warmly. You could not have asked for a more beautiful day or a kinder more receptive crowd of blues fans.

On Sunday our friends took us to an awesome all you can eat catfish place out in the country where some really fine food was had by one and all. Hyde's Fish House in Broseley, Missouri, is worth discovering. They bring on hush puppies, okra, onion, slaw, french fries, baked beans and some of the finest catfish I have ever eaten. This place cooks over 700 pounds of fish a day. I ate a great deal of that on this day. Thank you all for the great time. I hope we return very soon to revisit our friends and play more music in this beautiful place.
