What's up my fellow Blues fans! This week I am featuring photos of the legendary and innovative band, The Yardbirds. This show took place in May of this year at the BB King Blues Club in New York. As some of you may know, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck were all part of The Yardbirds. All they did was to go on and become three of the most revered, respected and important guitarists in rock. And yes, The Yardbirds are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, as they should be. Nowadays the band consists of two founding members, Chris Dreja on rhythm guitar and backing vocals and Jim McCarty on drums and backing vocals. They are joined by Ben King on lead guitar, Andy Mitchell on lead vocals, harp and acoustic guitar and David Smale on bass.
The Yardbirds have been at BB King's before and even have a live CD that was recorded at the BB King Blues Club in New York. This was my first time seeing the band and it was a great show. The band rocked out and they got bluesy. I was especially impressed with guitarist Ben King and lead vocalist Andy Mitchell. It was an absolute thrill to hear such classics like Train Kept A Rollin', Shapes of Things, Over Under Sideways Down, For Your Love and Dazed and Confused, among others. Hearing those songs reminded me why the live concert experience cannot be beat. I look forward to seeing The Yardbirds again next time they hit BB King's. Go out and catch these guys if they hit a venue near you. A good time will be had by all!
