NEW YORK BLUES: The Beat Goes On- Chris Thomas King

Posted on 8/09/2009 by Nelson Onofre

Greetings and Salutations! Hope you've been enjoying all kinds of blues music since my last post. This week I am submitting photos of Louisiana born guitarist Chris Thomas King. Chris is no newcomer to music and may or may not be a familiar name to some of you. Either way here are some vital and impressive statistics; sold over 10 million records and has 3 Gold and Platinum awards, multi Grammy Award winner, recorded the score for the movie 'Ray' with Ray Charles and also acted in the film, Chris was also in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? as well as on the soundtrack. I'm sure there's more to come from this multi-talented artist.

He came to Terra Blues with just a bassist and drummer and it was a solid set of music that came from the trio. The first set was electric and the second set was acoustic. I stayed for part of the acoustic set. If you look for my July 26, 2009 post you can see a video clip of Chris playing a classic version of the song I'll Fly Away joined by James Dalton of Terra Blues on mandolin. Chris is another one of those artists that is well worth checking out if you haven't already.

I'm not sure yet what I'll have for you next week but I'll be busy. Some of the shows I have lined up are Harlem Blues Project, Lucky Peterson, Walter Trout, and Robben Ford. No doubt, live music is where it's at! During the week my colleagues will continue their excellent writing so come back and please...bring a friend...or two!

Until the next go-round, keep supporting the Blues. These cats are working hard to lay it down for you.
